Born in Surry County to Edd and Nona McCreary, Cathy lived a life defined by love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family. Cathy was known as a beautiful, selfless, loyal, and fiercely protective woman with a strong spirit and gentle heart. Though stubborn at times, she was a fighter in life who consistently offered encouragement, warmth, and wisdom to those around her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Wayne Brown, and her parents, Edd Lee McCreary Jr. and Nona Sue McCreary. She is survived by her children Patricia Thacker (Steven), Debra Baumann (Phillip), and Kenneth Brown (Crystal); siblings Ed McCreary and Michael McCreary; grandchildren Austin, Cameron, Paige, Ashlyn, Brandon, Grayson, and Samuel; step-grandchildren Phillip Jr., Zachary, Colin; great-grandchildren Pyper and Cameron Jr.; and niece Katie McCreary Warren.
Cathy’s greatest achievements were the love she gave and the family she built. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and unconditional devotion that will continue to inspire generations.
